BEYOND EXPEDITION RACE

IRELAND

20 -21JULY 2024

ENTRIES are OPEN

Countdown Expired!

Donegal has always been proud of its adventure heritage and we are stoked here at Race Ireland to bring 24hr+ expedition racing back to the mighty hills of Donegal.
Over two race distances, we aim to challenge your ability on our 12hr and 24hr race course with a mix of Hiking, Biking, Trail Running and Kayaking in the most jaw dropping playground in Ireland.

The event starts in Rathmelton home of the world famous Football Special, the birth place of Dave Gallaher, All Blacks rugby captain.

The course is fully marked from start to finish and we will be giving you a gps route for your device to follow.

Getting to the finish line is important but getting to the Beyond Expedition After Party now thats mandatory – It wouldn’t be Ireland unless we kicked up those heels, sang along to a few tunes, blew the froth off a few cold beers and enjoyed the tales from the days craic in adventure.

Environmental impact is of critical importance to us all at Beyond Donegal AR.
Adventure racers are responsible when it comes to looking after the environment in which they are racing, and we will ensure that in Donegal we  will will leave little to no trace or impact. The race rules detail specific environmental requirements to ensure this happens.
Beyond Donegal Organisers will provide all water based equipment – (Kayak, Paddles and life buoyancy aids- all these pieces of equipment will be washed in Verkon Aquatic before entering the water to ensure we protect the Bio security of lough eske, this is very important to us.

“Virkon Aquatic is a concentrated disinfectant powder that can be mixed with water, to form a powerful disinfecting solution with efficacy against fish viruses, bacteria, fungi, and molds.”

Beyond Donegal Organisers will ensure on both the Hike and Bike sections that we will keep to already established trails pathways and road to ensure we leave no long lasting ground impact around the Bluestacks region.

Beyond Donegal Organisers have liaised locally to ensure that we have full permission and a responsible working relationship with all the relevant governing bodies for the proper use, protection and travel over lands and water ways.

“This event has a Leave no trace ethos”

It is highly recommended that your support crew member has your transition area stocked with food and water for each leg of the event.

In July, mid summer it should be reasonable. However !!!! you will need to be prepared for all weather conditions.

You do not need to have your team members or support crew members name confirmed at booking – If unsure of a name place Athlete 2 or 3 or 4 in the name place to enter – however full payment is still due.

by Jason Black, Race Organiser/Director

Non-stop adventure racing activity is hard work in anyone’s book, period. However, finishing the race should be achievable for those who start with a reasonable endurance fitness base.  It’s not the fastest that wins – its who ever is  the most efficient. Whatever race strategy you choose, you will know your strengths and weaknesses, and plan their race accordingly.

You should also consider that a lot wont be in the race to compete for first place, their aim will be to simply finish. They enter because they want to push themselves harder than they think is possible, and for longer than they believe they can. They want to challenge their perceived limits and go past them!. However you should remember that you are firstly competing against yourself, and we encourage that regardless of speed and pace, just keep pushing you can complete the course, and we will be waiting.

What makes beyond uniques is the ability to have a mobile team mate as a tech/support. This mean they can drive between each transition transport your bike or life jacket and paddle maybe have warm food ready or have fresh clothes to hand.
It also means singing and laughing to each other to keep each other going. It is sharing the highs and lows. A good team says all equipment is ours, all problems are ours, all mistakes are ours, and all successes are ours.

  • You must complete the full course, your gps tracker will show you covered the entire route.
  • You must stop and help if someone is badly hurt or in grave danger.
  • You can be serviced by your support team anywhere along the route as long as its safely of the race course and not hindering traffic or competitors.
  • If you do not carry your mandatory safety kit YOU WILL BE DISQUALIFIED and there is no exceptions.
  • We expect honesty with no cheating from everyone.
  • Show consideration for your fellow competitors by keeping your distance between other competing teams and as team members you must stay within 100m of each other for the entire race.
  • Gps watches ,phones and nav devices are allowed.
  • It’s going to hurt, get over yourself.
  • One legged dancing and smiles at the after party are mandatory in Donegal.
